the world on a panic attack...
I won’t make this long; COVID-19 is currently bringing the world into a huge panic attack. Rightly so, although we know that this is not a sustainable feeling. This blast of stress and uncertainly will fizzle out, but whilst submerged into it, currently it feels like the end if far from sight. Weirdly enough, as someone who understands anxiety pitfalls, I am feeling relatively calm about the current health scare of the globe (I know BOLD statement for someone prone to feel nervous!).
This is because everything is temporary. This virus - temporary. This panic buying-temporary. Closures of events - temporary. Life I will not be like this forever, I know really doesn’t help for the situation no, but use it as a comfort blanket. Let it take away the long term clouded view; it will not be like this forever.
Trust me, I am not saying all this because it hasn’t affected me; because it currently is stopping a lot of my future plans, my university degree, my travel plans. A lot of money potentially wasted, so I am not saying this lightly. But I am saying this with a spirit of positivity; because we need to keep on living and BEING human!
So my final note; if you are worried, put in perspective of the bigger picture, a virus (whether with a fancy name or just a common flu) is horrible because who wants to throw up and have diarrhoea (like at the same time is just the worst!). Hygiene should always be implemented but I am enjoying the smells of the different soaps at every establishment I visit (my fave so far; jasmine and peppermint!). I feel I am becoming closer to the average stranger as we all have something to moan about; my social bubble is rising (I secretly love connecting with people who I normally don’t speak about). Self-isolation is making me read more or pick up new hobbies (my crow yoga pose is getting so much better). Lastly, THIS IS NOT THE FUTURE. THIS IS A SMALL PRESENT IN TIME. Life isn’t over, plans are not cancelled forever. You will travel again, you will go to that concert, you will run that race. Just not right now. Which is okay.
Yes, I wish for no one to die. Of course I am more than sympathy to the vulnerable humans who may contact this virus. Yet without sounding completely harsh, people die of regular flu EVERY SINGLE YEAR. COVID19 is no different.
Live life for your everyday because we never know our last breath; virus or not. This is a message of hope. So much to do and see and to keep moving. Just wash some hands and do as we are told by government. They use science and reasoning in this situation. Media uses psychology to sell panic as it feeds into our brain, to make us feel we have no power. Yet the power of the government is being rationale. So listen.
COVID-19, it will be a small particle in a big picture.
